Montessori Schools

The Beddow Montessori Schools are private, non-sectarian schools for children from 2 1/2 years of age through age 12. Our philosophy is based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori. Students must be 2-1/2 years of age by September 1 in order to be considered for the primary level classes and 5 years of age by September 1 to be considered for the full day primary classes.

STAFF

The Primary and Elementary teachers at The Beddow Schools are trained Montessorians and hold Montessori diplomas appropriate to the level they teach, in addition to undergraduate or graduate degrees. The support staff includes administrative professionals and classroom aides.

CLASSES

The Fort Washington and Waldorf campuses consist of primary and elementary classes that are non-graded and meet five days a week. The curriculums for the primary and elementary classes emphasize a phonetic approach in language development, and a concrete approach in mathematics, social studies and science. The half-day primary class is for students age 5 and under and meets from 9:00 a.m. – noon. The full-day primary classes are for students who have reached the age of 5 by September 1st or age 6. Admission to the full-day primary class is dependent upon readiness and is determined by the teacher and administrative head. School hours for the full-day primary classes and elementary classes are from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

EXTENDED DAY CARE

Before and after school care is available for an additional monthly fee. A nap-time period for students in the half-day primary classes is available from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. for an additional fee for students in the half-day primary classes. Extended day care and nap-time hours are available on a first come, first served basis.

ENROLLMENT FEE

A $500 fee is required at the time of enrollment, and is not refundable. This fee is deducted from the annual tuition, with the balance of the tuition to be paid monthly, beginning September 1, through May 1.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATION

Contracts insure the stability of the school and are strictly enforced. The Beddow Schools will not refund tuition or cancel unpaid obligations if the accepted student is forced to withdraw before or during the school year.

ENROLLMENT

Enrollment and acceptance are based on the results of the student’s application and interview, on a first come, first served basis. A student’s placement is based on the result of the interview. There is a $25 non-refundable interview fee. When classes are full, applicants are placed on a waiting list. The Beddow Schools do not discriminate on the basis of race,  color, or national origin.
